Phoenix is using their bench to the maximium, batting .484 pinch hitting, Pawtucket is in 2nd pinch hitting at a .444 pace. Louisville's Mike Schmidt smashes his 3rd grand slam of the year, just 1 behind teammate and league leader Oscar Gamble with 4. Toledo's Gary Carter became the 2nd hitter to reach the century mark in RBI, 12 behind Phoenix's Greg Luzinski. There is a very close race at the top of the batting table now, Toledo's Roger Freed holds 1st place hitting .68, followed closely by Pawtucket teammates Gary Alexander and Rod Carew. Louisville's Mike Flanagan also reached 20 wins this week, 2nd behind Phoenix's Bert Blyleven's 22 wins. On the mound, Springfield's Jack Morris and Winnipeg's Ron Guidry each retired 15 hitters on strikes in in their start this week. Not to be out done, Memphis' John Candelaria pitched his 2nd 1 hitter of the season on 8/9 in a 10-2 win over Louisville. The only hit that he allowed came after loading the bases on walks in the 6th, a single by Larry Hisle.
