Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1951/standingspo.htmlHighlights: Amarillo showed it's season long, league leading form, going into Toledo and sweeping the Mud Hens in games 3, 4, and 5 to win their series. The Gold Sox starting pitching was dominant with 5 CG, 5 QS, 0.93 WHIP and a 1.40 ERA in the 5 games. Congratulations to Toledo for making a great run over the last six weeks of the season to make the playoffs! The Colonels / Stars series is now 3-2 in favor of the Stars. Hollywood won games 3 and 4 in easy fashion, making game 5 an elimination game for Louisville. The Colonels rose to the occasion in an incredible 16 inning, 3-2 victory, to stay alive. Definitely check out the BOX/PAC for this game, there were baserunners in just about every half inning, with a combined 31 runners LOB! latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1951/resultsplayoffs/BOX09181951LCOHOL.htmlatorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1951/resultsplayoffs/PAC09181951LCOHOL.htmDaily Recaps and League File - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1951/leaguefilesplayoffs/Semifinal_2.zip

Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1951/standingspo.htmlHighlights: In a surprising start to the World Series, Louisville opens up with back to back victories in Amarillo. The Colonels did have the advantage in head to head play during the regular season, but a road sweep of games 1 and 2 to start the finals is not what the Gold Sox fans were expecting. Fred Hutchison spun a gem of shutout in game 1, allowing 5 hits and no BBs, in a 6-0 victory. Add in 2 HRs by his battery mate, Joe Garagiola, and that is all Hutchison needed. In Game 2, Ken Holcombe pitched a complete game in a Colonel 8-4 victory. Amarillo had the game in hand until the 8th inning, when the Louisville bats got hat and scored 7 runs in over that last two innings. The offensive hero in this game was Cliff Mapes with a solo HR in the 8th and a Grand Slam in the 9th to seal the win for Louisville. Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1951/standingspo.htmlHighlights: In an abrupt finish to the season, the Louisville Colonels bats were too much for the Amarillo Gold Sox pitching, completing a World Series sweep in commanding fashion. The Colonels totaled 17 HRs and 60 runs in 11 post season games with 14 SB (overcoming 13 errors!). Louisville's pitching, while not dominant, was more than good enough with the lineup firing on all cylinders. Amarillo's season long strong pitching couldn't contain the Colonels, giving up an average of 9 runs per game in the Finals. The post season MVP is Louisville's SS Eddie Joost with 9 R, 4 HR, 8 RBI, 12 BB, .418 OBP, 9.6 RC/27 and a 1.156 OPS. Congratulations to Randy on winning the 1951 World Series and to Scott for having a great season in defense of his 1950 Championship!
