Highlights: Good races at the top of all 3 divisions, 2 game leads or less for all division leaders, the South is the closest worst to first with just 6 games covering all 5 teams. The best record in June so far is Portland at 10-4, the Beavers on on the brink of breaking into single digit GBs. Springfield is doing what it takes when it needs to get done to stay ahead of Toledo and Iowa, 22-11 in 1 run games and 8-4 in extra inning games. Sticking with the getting it done when it counts idea, Memphis' Boog Powell and Roberto Clemente are doing just that with the bases loaded. Powell has 3 grand slams, Clemente has 2 in a combined 10 bases loaded ABs. Winnipeg's starting pitchers are piling up great outings. Steve Blass threw the Whips second 1 hitter of the season on 6/13 against Richmond in a 3-0 win. Blass followed the lead of Bob Johnson's 1 hitter on 5/16 and Clyde Wright's no hitter on 3/23. Toledo's Tom Seaver and the Whips' Johnson both had 14 K performances this week, Seaver on 6/12 and Johnson on 6/14, both pitchers earning a W in the process. Seaver leads all hurlers in Ks with 162.
