Joe Torre smacked 3 HRs and drove in 6 on 3/29 against Richmond, but Memphis came up short in a 9-8 loss. Memphis' Roberto Clemente has the top power numbers after week 1, hitting 7 balls out of the park and plating 15 runs. Game of the Week: Toledo scores 2 in the 9th to tie, and 1 in the 10th to take a lead, only to lose on a walkoff 2R HR from Paul Blair for Syracuse. On the mound three 2 hitters were booked, all wins; Tom Seaver for Toledo on 4/20, Jim Palmer for Portland on 4/22, and Don Wilson for Springfield on 4/23. At the plate, Louisville and Richmond combined for 47 runs in 2 games. The first a 14-9 win for the Colonels on 4/22, followed by an 18-6 victory for the Braves on 4/23. Reggie is in the top 10 in most of the major offensive categories. Joe Torre remains hot at the plate for Memphis, now hitting .401! Also for the Blues this week, Lou Brock swiped 4 bases on 5/20 (14 in the last week), and is now halfway to 100. Brock also had 14 hits this week leading to 10 RS. Springfield's Ron Bloomberg picked up 3 GWRBIs this week, doubling his total for the year so far. Bloomberg's teammate Don Wilson had a strong set of games on the mound this week, 2 CG victories allowing just 13 hits while striking out 16. Wilson is 5-0 in his last 5 starts, all compete game wins. Memorial Day had fireworks in New Orleans, as the visiting Blues scored 20 runs in a lopsided win over the Pelicans. Memphis had 16 hits and 12 walks in the offensive explosion. New Orleans' Brooks Robinson had a huge week at the plate, smacking 5 HRs and driving in 11 in a 11-26 span. Robinson is at the top of the RBI table with 57 in 65 games. Toledo's Bobby Murcer is 17 for his last 35, helping the Hens stay in the action in the North. Murcer's teammate Tom Seaver is mowing down batter, averaging more than 1 K per inning over his last 7 starts, striking out 62 in 59 innings.
