Wild Card Series Games 1 and 2Standings - www.stratomaticnation.com/sombb/1970kp/1975ps/standings1.htmlHighlights: Springfield Redbirds (6) vs. Richmond Braves (3) – SPR leads 2-0 Springfield sweeps the first 2 games in Richmond in two close games, 3-2 and 4-1. Game 1 was an exciting contest, the teams never separated by more than a single run. The game winning run was scored for the Redbirds in the top of the 6th on back to back extra base hits, a triple by Phil Roof, then a double by Pete Rose. Game 2 was a pitchers duel, Richmond leading 1-0, until the top of the 8th when Springfield ruined John Montefusco's shutout, plating 4 runs, 3 on a home run off of the bat of Bob Robertson. Bill Castro picked up the complete game win allowing just 6 hits. Louisville Colonels (5) vs Albuquerque Dukes (4) - series tied 1-1 Albuquerque and Louisville split the opening games of the series in one sided results. The Colonels took the opening game, 7-1 in extra innings, scoring 6 runs in the 12th on 3 run double by Joe Morgan and a 3 run HR from Gorman Thomas. Burt Hooton pitched 11 terrific innings to earn the win. Game 2 was over almost before it started as the Dukes posted 4 runs in the 1st and 3rd innings, coasting to the victory. Dave Cash was the offensive star of the game, driving in 5 runs, 4 on 1 swing, a grand slam in the 3rd inning. Vida Blue tossed a complete game. allowing 3 runs on 3 hits. Louisville Colonels (5) vs Albuquerque Dukes (4) - ALB wins 4-1 Albuquerque storms into Louisville and takes all 3 games to clinch the series, 4 games to 1. Game 3 proved to be the pivotal point in the match-up, the Dukes taking the series lead with a 5-3 win and grabbing the momentum for the rest of the wild card round. The Dukes dominated the series with strong performances from the mound and the plate, booking a team ERA of 2.81 with a 1.12 WHIP, while scoring 40 runs, hitting 8 HRs and stealing 18 bases. Albuquerque pushed off elimination in game 6 breaking open a 0-0 game in the bottom of the 7th with a 5 run inning, anchored by a Dave Parker 3 run HR. Vida Blue earned the 5-1 win, allowing just 5 hits in his 2nd post season win. Richmond Braves (3) vs Pawtucket Red Sox (2) - PRS wins 4-0 Pawtucket completes the sweep of Richmond winning games 3 and 4 by the same 8-5 score. Steve Rogers pitched the full 9 innings in game 3, spreading out 12 hits and getting 2 RBI's each from Rod Carew and Steve Ontiveros. Semi-Final Games 6 and 7Standings - www.stratomaticnation.com/sombb/1970kp/1975ps/standings1.htmlHighlights: Albuquerque Dukes (4) vs. Phoenix Giants (1) – ALB wins 4-3 Albuquerque wins the series by taking the final 2 games with their backs against the wall on the road in Phoenix. Don Sutton earned his 3rd post season win holding the Giants to 4 runs on 12 hits. The game was tied at 3 after 8 setting up a thrilling 9th inning. The Dukes took a 2 run lead in the top half on a two out bases loaded error by CF Fred Lynn off of the bat of Jose Cardenal, 2 runs scored before he could get the ball into the cutoff man putting the Giants behind. Chris Speier homered in the bottom of the 9th to cut the lead in half, but Hector Torres and Jerry Davanon couldn't continue the rally. Game 7 was an epic match up, going 15 innings before being decided. The Giants were trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th when Speier came through driving in the tying run on a 2 out double. The teams went scoreless through the 14th, with the tie being broken in the top of the top of the 15th on a 2 out RBI base hit by Ed Rodriguez scoring Cardenal. The Giants couldn't answer in the bottom half of the inning, watching the Dukes come back for a 3-1 deficit to advanced to the World Series. Pawtucket plated the game winning run in a 4 run 6th inning, highlighted by a 2 run HR off the bat of Pedro Garcia. The series clinching game 4 featured another complete game performance, this time from Gary Nolan, holding the Dukes to 7 hits in a 6-2 victory. Steve Ontiveros went 2 for 4 with a HR, 2 RBI and 2 RS for the Red Sox. Pawtucket dominated the post season ending up with a +31 run differential in their 8 games. Rod Carew was the post season offensive leader for the Red Sox, ending up with 14 RBI and 6 RS.
