Semi-Final Games 1 and 2Standings - www.stratomaticnation.com/sombb/franchise1950_1999/1950_1999ps/standings1.htmlHighlights: Atlanta Braves (4) vs. New York Yankees (1) – NY leads 2-0 Ron Guidry and Steve Hamilton line up to hold the Braves to just 2 runs in each of the first two games to give the Yankees a 2-0 series lead. Thurman Munson went 2 for 4 in game 1 driving in 2 runs and Derek Jeter went 3 for 5 with a triple, RBI and RS in game 2 to provide the offense in the wins. Houston Astros (3) vs San Francisco Giants (2) - SF leads 2-0 Juan Marichal tossed a complete game 4 hitter for the Giants in a 3-1 game 1 victory. Willie Mays went 3 for 4 at the plate to support Marichal's dominant outing. Game 2 provided plenty of excitement, with a 9th inning filled with a rally in both halves of the inning. Houston trailed 4-3 in the top of the 9th and took the lead on a 2 run HR off of the bat of Ken Caminiti. The Astros brought in their ace reliever Billy Wagner in the bottom of the inning, confident that the leagues save leader would lock up the win against the heart of the Giants order. The big hitters played small ball with a walk and 2 singles from Willie Mays, Willie McCovey and Matt Williams to tie up the game. Kurt Manwaring loaded the bases getting on thanks to an error setting up Robbie Thompson for a bases loaded game winning base on balls. Post Season Game Of The Night The Giants rally in the bottom of the 9th to win game 2 5-4 on a Robby Thompson walk off walk.Daily Recaps and League File - available on request.

Semi-Final Games 3, 4 and 5Standings - www.stratomaticnation.com/sombb/franchise1950_1999/1950_1999ps/standings1.htmlHighlights: Atlanta Braves (4) vs New York Yankees (1) - SF wins 4-0 New York advances to the World Series in 5 games, taking 2 of 3 in Atlanta. Games 3 and 4 were one-sided, each team claiming a victory, taking the series to game 5 with Atlanta facing elimination. The Yankees opened up a lead scoring 3 runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings top build a 6-0 lead, only to watch the Braves bounce back scoring 7 runs over the next 3 innings. New York plated runs in the 6th and 7th inning to take back the lead 9-7 after the top of the 7th. The Braves mounted another rally in the bottom of the inning to make the score 9-8, but came up short, unable to score against Steve Howe and Mariano Rivera in the final innings. Mickey Mantle was the offensive star for New York, going 8 for 19 in the series with 4 HRs, 2 doubles with 10 RBI and 8 RS. Houston Astros (3) vs San Francisco Giants (2) - SF wins 4-0 The Giants complete the sweep of the Astros winning 2 closely contested games in Houston. The Giants took an early 4 run lead in game 3 and held on for a 5-4 win, Gaylord Perry pitched 8 innings for the win and Willie McCovey homered, drove in 2 runs and scored 2 runs. Game 4 went extra innings, decided in the top of the 13th on a 2 run base hit from Jeff Leonard to lock up the 6-4 win. Jeff Brantley picked up the decision, pitching 2 2/3 perfect innings. Mickey Mantle smashed his 5th post season HR in 6 games in the loss. The Yankees delivered the Giants their first post season loss in game 2, 4-3 powered by solo HRs from Thurman Munson, Johnny Blanchard and Graig Nettles. Nettles was the game MVP with 2 doubles in addition to the solo blast. The Yankees offense was hitting on all cylinders posting a 6 run inning in both games. Dave Winfield hit 2 HRs in game 3 and Graig Nettles matched the effort hitting 2 HRs in game 4. One of Winfield's HRs was a grand slam, giving him 15 RBI in the playoffs. San Francisco fought off elimination in game 5, hanging on in 10 innings scoring the game winning run on a walkoff wild pitch by Sparky Lyle, scoring J.T. Snow.
