Schoendienst is now batting .363 just 5 points out of the batting lead, is 2nd in H and RS, and 4th in doubles. Speaking of Andy Carey, the Amarillo third baseman knocked 5 more HRs this week, even so, the gap between Carey and Eau Claire's Ted Williams in the HR race remains at 8, with Williams hitting 5 more out of the yard this week as well. Williams also racked up 3 3-RBI games this week. New Orleans Harry Dorish has joined the Wins lead with 8, with 4 as a starter in April and 4 as a releiver in May. The game was tied at 1 after 2 when both teams pitching kicked in and pitched 13 scoreless innings, with Warren Spahn and Eddie Lopat each going 11 innings. In the bottom of the 16th, Amarillo's Joe Collins stroked a 2 out single and Andy Carey followed up with a 2 run walkoff HR to win the game. Amarillo had a weeks worth of terrific starting pitching, with Mickey McDermott and Alex Kellner putting together 3 victories in 4 starts, allowing 23 H, 4 ER, 18 K in 36 IP. Every batter in the Colonels lineup got at least 1 hit, led by Red Schoendienst who went 5-6 and 6 RBI, Hank Thompson with a 4-6 game (including a double 2 triples and a HR), and a 3-4 game by the starting pitcher Russ Meyer. The Denver Bears went 6-1 this week and had great performances on the mound and at the plate over the past 10 games, led by the arm of Early Wynn (2-0, 2 CG, 8 H, 2 ER) and the bat of Gus Zernial (6 HR, 10 RBI). Eau Claire's Ted Williams has moved into Triple Crown territory, Williams batted .375 with 5 HR and 14 RBI over his last 10 games. He is now leading all triple crown categories. Eau Claire's Ted Williams had another massive week, going 13-25 with 9 RBI and 3 more HR. The Splendid Splinter is on pace for 82 HR and 262 hits. Williams teammate Eddie Mathews has also been in the groove over teh past 10 days, batting .425 with 6 HR and 14 RBI. Eau Claire has climbed into 4th place behind the two sluggers. Tied at 2 after 6 innings, both teams went scoreless for the next 13 innings until the Pelicans took the lead in the top of the 20th on a double by Johnny Lindell and then a 2 out 3 run double by Dusty Rhodes. The Mud Hens were unable to answer in the bottom of the 20th, and left the park wondering what could have been after leaving 25 runners on base. With balanced hitting and pitching, the Denver Bears and Kansas City Blues are climbing through the standings, each team is 8-2 over the last 10.
