Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1955/standings.htmlHighlights: July ends just as it started, with the top 4 teams well ahead of the rest of the pack. Indianapolis continues to lead the way, with Denver, Louisville and Toledo trading the 2-4 spots back and forth. Amarillo and Beaumont are near .500 but have a big gap to close in the final few weeks. The Indian's Roy Campanella has bounced back from his 10 game injury at the all star break and is now in the top 5 in the major batting categories (HR, RBI, AVG, RS, SLG, OBP, OPS, RC27, and Total Bases). Campy is currently recovering from his 4th injury of the season (his inj is on 3-3, so there is some bad luck to offset his offensive production). Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1955/standings.htmlHighlights: Congratulations to the playoff teams (in seeded order): (1) Indianapolis (2) Denver (3) Louisville (4) Toledo Toledo was able to hold off Amarillo, but not in commanding fashion, going 3-4 in the last week, including 3 consecutive losses to New Orleans to end the season. The Gold Sox couldn't rally to catch the Hens, only mustering 4 wins over the same span, and losing their last 2 games of the season. There will need to be some inspirational speeches in Toledo's clubhouse before they travel to Indianapolis! Indianapolis and Denver have made the playoffs for the 2nd consecutive year, and the Bears are hoping for redemption after their World Series loss last season. In individual season performances, Louisville's Al Kaline came back in the last week of the season to catch Kansas City's Dave Philley for the batting title by .002 points. As a consolation, Philley ended up with a league leading 217 hits. Indianapolis' Ernie Banks finished with 63 HR, 10 more than the next closest slugger, ending up 1 RBI behind Beaumont's Ted Kluszewski for the RBI title. Beaumont's Robin Roberts finished with 23 W and Amarillo's Willard Schmidt ended the season with the best ERA of 2.87.
