Terrific opening day game! Campy combined with his teammates Willie Mays and Wally Post to generate 28 RS with 28 RBI and 9 HR. Beaumont's Robin Roberts provided the highlights of the week for the Exporters, with 2 CG victories, allowing 2 runs on 9 hits and 1 BB in 18 IP. Labine had 5 K's and allowed only 1 BB in the win. Beaumont continues to get great pitching from Robin Roberts and the Exporters are also getting good support at the plate with Elmer Valo leading the league batting .442, Big Klu Ted Kluszewski leading in RBI with 39, and Clint Courtney with a 9 game hitting streak. Denver's Duke Snider has been raking at the plate, batting .389 with 6 HR and 17 RBI in his last 10 games. The Bears are also being powered on the mound by Early Wynn, who is 3-0 is his last 3 starts, and Don Newcombe, who is now tied for the most wins with 9. Hollywood is trying to rally after dropping to the bottom of the standings early in the season, the Stars are 13-4 over their last 17, bouncing back from an 11 game losing streak. Indianapolis is back in gear, putting together a 9 game winning streak and leaving Denver 4 games back after a tough week for the Bears. This is the second 3 HR game for a batter given up by the Stars this season (Campanella in week 1). Louisville's Gil Hodges knocking the leather off of the ball, Hodges is 16 for his last 32 with 6 HR and 13 RBI. The Colonels have paired strong pitching from Joe Nuxhall's 5 game winning streak with Kaline's hitting to move into 4th place in the standings. At the middle of the standings table, Kansas City is beginning to get terrific hitting from Elston Howard (5 HR, 12 RBI in his last 33 ABs) and Bill Skowron (16 hits in his last 31 ABs with 11 RBI). The rest of the league is splitting into two groups, only 4 teams are over .500 at the midway point of the season. The bottom half of the table have a lot of work to do to catch the top teams. Brewer now has 4 consecutive wins and is now 6-1 on the season. This is the second 1 hitter pitched against the Lookouts this year. The Senators have found life, winning 9 in a row and climbing out of the basement. Charleston has turned things around thanks to strong pitching, chalking up 2 shutouts and 5 1 run outings over the 9 game winning streak. Not to be overlooked by all of the pitching, Beamont's Ted Kluszewski has 6 HR and 23 RBI in his last 11 games.
