Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1955/standingspo.htmlHighlights: Top seed Indianapolis swept both games at Fenway Park against Toledo, scoring a whopping total of 28 runs. The Mud Hens pushed the Indians to 14 innings in Game 1, only to lose 13-10 on a walk off 3 R HR by the Indians Willie Mays. A combined 10 players had 3 or more hits in the game. Game 2 was one sided as the Indians scored early and often in a 15-2 victory. Indy put up 5 in the first and 5th inning and scored a run in all but 1 inning. 7 of the Indians had a multi-hit game. In the other series, the Colonels and Bears split the first two games in Crosley Field. In game 1 the Colonels won a hard earned 9-8 victory on a complete game by Billy Hoeft. Hoeft gave up 3 HR to the Bears, but held them off thanks to terrific support at the plate from the entire Louisville lineup, with each batter having a hit and 8 batters scoring a run. The Bears bounced back in game 2 winning 5-2 thanks to a strong performance on the mound by Early Wynn and 4 HRs from the Denver lineup. Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1955/standingspo.htmlHighlights: The Bears go into Briggs Stadium and take control of their series against the Colonels. Denver sweeps Louisville in all 3 games in commanding fashion and take the series 4-1. The Bears were led by Stan Lopata who went yard twice in games 4 and 5 after filling in for an injured Smokey Burgess in game 3. Lopata had 5 hits in the series, all HR, and partnered up with Frank Thomas and Duke Snider to combine for 12 HR in the 5 games. The Colonels Johnny Logan did his best to keep Louisville in the series, batting .381 with 4 XB hits in 21 AB, but could not do it alone as the Colonels pitching came up short.. In a surprising change of events in the Indianapolis / Toledo series, the Mud Hens bounce back with a vengeance at home and take all 3 games at Comiskey Park. In game 3, Toledo's Bob Buhl somehow found a way to quiet the Indians bats, shutting them out with a 3 hitter. Games 4 and 5 were exciting, close games, both decided by a single run. In game 4, the Hens batted around in the 6th inning, scoring 4 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks. The Indians rallied for 2 runs in the 7th, but had the game tying run, Bobby Adams, thrown out at the plate on a single by Roy Campanella to end the inning. In game 5, a 6-6 deadlock was broken in the bottom of the 11th on a 1 out walkoff triple by Bill Virdon, scoring Yogi Berra who led off the inning with a single. Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1955/standingspo.htmlHighlights: In a pair of tightly contested games, Denver's opponent in the World Series is finally set. In game 6, Indianapolis made the most out of their return home, with a 4-1 victory over the Mud Hens thanks to a terrific complete game victory by Warren Hacker. Hacker allowed just 4 hits and a walk, chalking up his 2nd victory of the series. Hacker relied on his defense, not striking out a single batter in the game. The deciding game 7 came down to the final 3 innings. With the score tied at 3 in the top of the 7th, the Mud Hens Willie Jones singled and advanced to 2nd on a HBP. After a Hank Bauer popout, Bill Virdon came through with a 2 out double to drive Jones in with the go ahead run. The Indians stranded runners in the 7th and 8th inning and went down in order in the 9th, ending a terrific season with a disappointing loss. Congrats to John and Randy on a great season, it was a 4 team race for almost the entire season and they ran into two strong teams in the semis. Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1955/standingspo.htmlHighlights: Game 1The opening game of the series ends with a bang as the Bears win on a walk off HR by Roy Seivers. Seivers drove in all 3 of the Bears runs in support of a complete game 6 hitter by Don Newcombe. Newcombe rang up 9 K's in the victory. Game 2Toledo bounces back on the road to even the series with a 6-3 win. The Mud Hens scored 5 runs in the first 3 innings on Early Wynn and relied on strong pitching from Mike Garcia to lock up the W. The Bears suffered 2 critical injuries, 1B Frank Kellert is out for the rest of the playoffs and SS Harvey Kuenn is out until game 6. Kellert was the Bears top hitter this year and will be a huge loss for Denver. Daily Recaps and League File - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1955/leaguefilesplayoffs/Final_1.zip

Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1955/standingspo.htmlHighlights: Game 3The Bears go into Comiskey and fire on all cylinders at the plate, scoring 11 runs on 10 hits, including a 3 R HR by backup middle IF Don Zimmer. The Mud Hens didn't help their cause, committing 5 errors in the game which turned into 9 unearned runs. Game 4Denver kept the momentum from their game 3 victory, this time being led by dominant pitching from game 1 winner Don Newcombe. Newcombe allowed 1 run in 8 IP and handed a 3-1 lead over to Don Mossi, who delivered a 1-2-3 inning in the 9th for the save. Game 5Toledo's had their backs against the wall in game 5, and their offense woke up, getting 10 hits and 7 walks. Unfortunately for Toledo, they couldn't come through in the clutch, leaving 10 runners on base in the 5-2 series clinching loss to Denver. Early Wynn went 8 1/3 and 5 different batters crossed the plate in a balanced attack from the Bears. CONGRATULATIONS to Greg and his DENVER BEARS on their first league championship, our leagues 6th different team to win it all in 6 seasons!!!Congrats to Jeff and the Mud Hens as well on their 2nd World Series appearance and 3 playoff appearance.Daily Recaps and League File - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1955/leaguefilesplayoffs/Final_2.zip
