Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1956/standings.htmlHighlights: With 6 games to go, Amarillo is making a final push to catch Louisville for the final playoff spot. The Gold Sox are riding a 4 game winning streak but will need a lot of help from the Colonels to bridge the 4 game gap. New Orleans and Denver are battling for home field advantage in the first round playoff series. The two teams are currently tied, the Bears have the tiebreaker, so the Pelicans will need to chalk up one more win that New Orleans if they are going to earn the advantage. Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1956/standings.htmlHighlights: Congratulations to the playoff teams (in seeded order): (1) Charleston (2) Denver (8-6 vs NOP) (3) New Orleans (4) Louisville New Orleans was 9-5 in September, but even playing that well wasn't enough to hold off Denver for 2nd place with the Bears going 11-3. Top seed Charleston suffered their only losing month of the season and fell 1 game short of the 100 win mark. The Senators 99 wins is a tournament record. Louisville played just well enough to hold off the Gold Sox, but have the tough task of facing Charleston to open the playoffs. Denver has made the playoffs for the 3nd consecutive year, and are looking to repeat as champions in back to back years. Louisville has now made the playoffs a tournament leading 4 times and they are playing for their 2nd championship as well. In individual season performances, we have different players at the top of each of the major categories which will make for some interesting MVP voting. Toledo's Vic Power is the batting champion at .342 and a solid .013 point lead over Chattanooga's Mickey Mantle. Mantle chased down Indianapolis' Joe Adcock for the HR lead, ending up with 56 and 1 HR to spare. Adcock's early lead in the RBI race held up finishing up with 138 to Mantle's 126. Indianapolis' Willie Mays swiped 77 bases, but even more remarkably was that he was only thrown out 6 times. On the mound, Indianapolis' Bob Rush and New Orlean's Johnny Antonelli tied with 23 Wins, topping a group of 8 20 game winners. Louisville's Tom Acker edged out Antonelli for the ERA title with a 2.55 ERA. Denver's Herb Score put up epic strikeout numbers with 344 and New Orleans' Ray Narleski won the Rolaids award with 24 saves.
