The 9th inning bomb was a grand slam with 2 outs in the 9th, down by 3 runs. The 1st inning shot was also with 2 outs! Denver's Herb Score struck out 11 in both if his first 2 starts, victories over Beaumont on 4/4 and Indianapolis on 4/8. 5 players have hits in all 7 games so far, can any make it to 14 after week 2? Indianapolis' Joe Adcock had a huge day against Kansas City on April 12, smashing 3 HR, scoring 4 runs and driving in 4 while going a perfect 4-4 on the day. Adcock now leads the league with 7 HR. Denver's Herb Score continues to throw heat, chalking up 12 more Ks in his 3rd start on April 12, but was handed the loss thanks to 3 errors by the Bears leading to 4 unearned runs. Louisville's Charlie Maxwell delivered the 2nd 3 HR performance of the season, driving in 6 in an April 19th victory over the Blues. Beaumont's Robin Roberts pitched 11 innings of 1 hit (0 BB) no decision baseball, only to watch the Exporters lose to Toledo 1-0 in an epic pitching performance by both teams on April 21st. The Senators are leading the league in ERA and WHIP, and are second in AVG and OBP. Denver's Herb Score posted his 4th double digit strikeout performance of the season, but has ended up with a 3-4 record so far for the Bears. His teammate Don Newcombe is getting his outs in other ways, and is now 6-1 for the 2nd place Bears. Indianapolis Indian Joe Adcock now has a league leading 15 HR and 36 RBI in just over 100 ABs, while batting .346. If he can keep up this pace his end of season numbers will be record setting. The Say Hey kid has 21 SBs in 22 attempts, and is 2nd in runs scored. Chattanooga's Mickey Mantle had 5 HRs this week and now leads the league in RC27 with 18.44, more than 4 RC27 over the next highest. The Mick is now 2nd in batting, 1st in OBP and SLG, has a .201 point lead in OPS, 2nd in HR and 1st in RC27. Amarillo's Warren Spahn putting in his claim as the early Cy Young favorite, now with 10 wins (1st), 10 CG, and 9 QS. Spahn is a big reason why the Gold Sox are near the top of the standings table. The commish can't believe his eyes :-) Hollywood's Tom Sturdivant booked the 2nd 1 hitter of the season on the 30th, in an epic 1-0 pitchers duel against the Montreal Royals. Sturdivant chalked up 10 Ks in the performance and is now 6-2 on the season. New Orleans Johnny Antonelli is throwing darts, leading the league in ERA and 2nd in wins for the 2nd place Pelicans. Charleston is firing on all cylinders, including the entire starting lineup with a .360 or higher OBP. Indianapolis' Bob Rush is 3-0 in June, allowing 3 ER in 26 IP. Rush is now 9-7 for the .500 Indians. Denver's Herb Score now has 8 10+ K performances for the 4th place Bears. Score also has 3 10+ BB games. Indianapolis' Joe Adcock is still keeping up record setting power numbers, with 28 HR and 78 RBI in 66 games, batting .405 over his last 10. Adcock could be looking at 60+ HR and 180 RBI over 154 games.
