Week 15Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/standings.htmlHighlights: Montreal's Duke Snider smacked 4 HR in 5 ABs against Louisville on 7/13 in a 12-10 win over the Colonels. Snider drove in 8 in the game and now has 32 HRs this season. Lookout's ace Frank Sullivan now has 17 W, 18 CG and 17 QS, leading the league in all categories. Denver Bear's Ted Williams now has a 18.07 RC27, 3 more than the next best, Chattanooga's Mickey Mantle. Williams OPS is 1.368! Unfortunately for the Bears he's been on the bench for 25 games due to injuries, add that to the 28 games Carl Furillo have lost for the Bears and their 48-42 record is even more impressive. Indianapolis' Willie Mays now has 14 triples on the season, tops in the league, and is batting .354 with a .430 OBP. Mays is in the top 10 in hits, total bases, OPS, and RS as well. Week 16Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/standings.htmlHighlights: Beaumont's Bob Hazle and Henry Aaron are in a 4 way battle for the batting championship with Charleston's Jerry Lumpe and Denver's Carl Furillo. All 4 are batting over .372 with .005 separating 1st and 4th in the leader board. We have a terrific HR race as well with 4 sluggers within striking distance of the lead. Beaumont's Aaron is in the lead but Denver's Ted Williams and the Royals Roy Sievers and Duke Snider are within 3 HR of Hammerin' Hank. Chattanooga's Cal McLish is getting remarkable run support from the Lookouts, averaging 6.47 runs when he is on the mound. That kind of offense has helped McLish to a 12-5 record, 2nd best on the team. Toledo's speed burner Yogi Berra, YES YOGI BERRA, stole home on 7/18 against Chattanooga in a 12-7 victory, the only successful steal of home in 8 seasons! Week 17Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/standings.htmlHighlights: Beaumont's Dick Groat went 6-6 on 7/28 against the Pelicans, with a double, triple and 4 RS in a 14-2 blowout in New Orleans. Denver's Smokey Burgess has 18 hits in his last 36 ABs, including 7 HR and 12 RBI for the Bears. Denver is now 1 game out of the last playoff position. The playoff race continues to be a great battle, with 5 teams withing 4 games of the last two playoff slots. A hot or cold spell for any of those teams could make for a big swing in the standings! Week 18Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/standings.htmlHighlights: The Exporters are making a push to end the season with an exclamation point, stretching out their lead to 9 games. The 2 through 6 teams are all 5-5 over the last 10, with no teams rising to meet Beaumonts challenge. A number of full season milestones have been reached this week; Indianapolis' Ernie Banks is the second hitter to achieve 100 RBI this season, Chattanooga's Frank Sullivan and Montreal's Connie Johnson have recorded their 20th victory, and Toledo's Luis Aparacio swiped his 50th base, Daily Recaps and League File - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/leaguefiles/Week_18.zip

Week 19Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/standings.htmlHighlights: Beaumont's Hammerin' Hank continues to rake, now in position to win the triple crown after going 15 for 33 over the last 10, tops in the league in AVG, HR and RBI. The RBI title looks like it's a lock, but Hank will have his hands full in the HR and batting races. Amarillo's Jack Sanford is tops in ERA so far, and he is taking on Denver's Herb Score in the strikeout race, trying to prevent a three-peat for Score in that category. The Mud Hens continue to stay in the race with pitching and speed. On the mound, Toledo is 1st in ERA, CG, OppBA, and least Blown Saves. On the basepaths, the Hens have stolen 119 bases thus far, 53 more then the next highest total. Daily Recaps and League File - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/leaguefiles/Week_19.zip

Week 20Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/standings.htmlHighlights: Charleston has taken the small ball approach again this season, relying on the basics to keep up with the pack. The Senators lead the league in squeeze plays (10-15), hit and runs (7-31, advancing the runner 23 times), sacrifices (93), extra base attempts (82) and extra bases (60). Second-basemen New Orleans' Nellie Fox and Louisville's Red Schoendienst are battling for this years gold glove, both fielding .920 on x chances. Montreal's Duke Snider is leading all CFs at .910 and Toledo's Luis Aparacio is best at SS at .890. Chattanooga's Rocky Bridges swiped home making for the second steal of home this year in a 3-2 victory over Amarillo on 8/16. Week 21Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/standings.htmlHighlights: With three weeks to go, the playoff road teams are not even close to being decided. No one battling for the final spots has played better than 6-4 or worse than 4-6 over the last 10 games, every game is important the rest of the way! There are still terrific races in all of the major categories (with the exception of RBIs) and Beaumont's Bob Hazle is proving to be a major threat to his Exporter's teammate, Hank Aaron, push for the triple crown. With the regular season championship all but locked up, it may be time for Coach Long to have a one on one meeting with Mr. Hazle. You have to wonder if this is the kind of stuff that shortened Hazle's major league career ;-) Daily Recaps and League File - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/leaguefiles/Week_21.zip

Week 22Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/standings.htmlHighlights: Herb Score tallied 13 K's on 8/26 against New Orleans in a 7-1 Denver Bears victory. It was Score's 11th game with 9 or more strikeouts this season. Score now has a 5 K lead over Amarillo's Jack Sanford. Charleston's Jerry Lumpe has gone 18-38 over his last 9 games and has jumped into 1st place in the batting race, bumping the Exporters into 2nd and 3rd place in the table. Chattanooga has closed the gap in 2nd place to 5 games this week, with Beaumont finding the road a little bumpy during visits to Toledo and Charleston, losing 5 out of 7 on the trip. Week 23Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/standings.htmlHighlights: We have 1 more week to go and there's plenty left to be decided. Beaumont and Chattanooga have clinched and Montreal looks like it has the inside track for the #3 seed with a 3 game lead over Toledo, Denver and Amarillo. Toledo has the softest schedule hosting Charleston and traveling to New Orleans, Denver has a little tougher road playing at Indianapolis and Beaumont, and Amarillo has the biggest challenge with away series at Charleston and Montreal. Charleston isn't mathematically eliminated, but they would need a perfect combination to make the cut, if they can sweep the remaining series against Toledo and Amarillo, and Denver comes up cold, the Senators could sneak in. Final StandingsStandings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1957/standings.htmlHighlights: Congratulations to the playoff teams (in seeded order): (1) Beaumont (2) Chattanooga (3) Montreal (4) Toledo We have NO repeat playoff teams from 1956, you have to love the parity in our league! Beamount fell just short of a 100 win season (97), and is now tied with Louisville and #4 seed Toledo for the most playoff appearances with 4. This is the 3rd playoff appearance for Chattanooga and 2nd for Montreal. In the #1 vs #4 series, the #1 seed Exporters get a bad draw (if that is possible with the #1 seed) and will face the only team that had a winning record against them, the Toledo Mud Hens. In their 14 games, the run differential is a whopping 1 run in favor of Toledo. The Hens pitching has kept Beaumont in check all season and will need to continue to pull off the upset from the #4 slot. Unbelievably, #2 seed Chattanooga also got the toughest possible match-up, facing the team that they had the worst head to head record against, 5-9 versus Montreal. The run differential in this series is at the other end of the spectrum, with the Royals compiling a +25, almost 2 runs per game difference. This series will be decided by the Lookouts pitching, if they can contain Montreal's bats they have a great chance of winning, if the Royals bring their bats, we could be looking at Montreal reaching their first World Series. These should be a terrific pair of match-ups! In individual season performances, Hank Aaron claimed 2 of the 3 jewels of the Triple Crown, ending up .007 out of 1st in the batting title, 5th to his Exporter teammate, Bob Hazle. Hazle won the title by .001 over Charleston's Jerry Lumpe. Hammerin' Hank led the RBI race by 27 over Indianapolis' Ernie Banks, and won the HR title by 1 HR, 54 to 53 over Montreal's Roy Seivers. The Royals had sluggers in the 2, 3 and 4 spot in the HR table. Chattanooga's Frank Sullivan JUST MISSED a 30 win season, finishing with 29, winning his last 7 starts after a no decision and loss in mid August. Sullivan now has the league record for wins in a season. Amarillo's Jack Sanford prevented Denver's Herb Score from a three-peat in the K category, out fire-balling him by 3 strikeouts. Sanford also ended up with the lowest ERA and came in second in wins, claiming 2 out of 3 gems in the pitching Triple Crown.
