Week 19Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1958/standings.htmlHighlights: Two playoff contending teams are passing like ships in the night... Beaumont cools off and is in the midst of a 6 game losing streak (10 out of the last 12) and Chattanooga is heating up (15-5 over the last 20), surging past the Exporters into a comfortable 4 game lead for the last post season spot. Montreal's Wes Covington has tacked on 7 more HRs and 12 RBI over the last 10 games, moving into the HR lead and into 2nd in the RBI race. The Royals passed a milestone this week, with Whitey Ford becoming the first 20 game winner, a result of his victory over the Pelicans on August 7th. The league has decided on the best way to slow down the Indians' RBI leader Ernie Banks, intentionally walking him 19 times so far. Opposing managers are going after the rest of the Indians' lineup instead, putting the pressure on platoon players in the 5-7 spots to pick up Willie Mays from scoring position. Mays leads the league with 106 RS, driven in most of the time by Banks! Daily Recaps and League File - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1958/leaguefiles/Week_19.zip

Week 21Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1958/standings.htmlHighlights: Charleston's Minnie Minoso and Jackie Jensen are red hot as of late, combining for 28 hits and 24 RBI over the last 10 games. Minoso and Jensen are helping the Senators extend their lead, now up to 8 games over Montreal. With only a few weeks left, there are clear leaders in most of top statistical categories, with 7 teams still competing for playoff berths. The teams at the top and bottom of the race for the last playoff spot played a terrific series this week, with Chattanooga taking 2 out of 3 from Toledo, keeping Beaumont, New Orleans and Toledo at bay. The Lookouts won two extra inning games over the Hens, 1-0 and 3-2, which could prove to be pivotal at the end of the regular season.
