Week 15Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1959/standings.htmlHighlights: Amarillo's Jack Sanford is throwing darts, only allowing a single run in his last 3 starts, all victories. Sanford has been streaky all year, 3 times losing 3+ games in a row and 2 times winning 3+ games in a row. Sanford is now 10-15 for the Gold Sox, but with the recent winning streak Amarillo has pulled within 6 games of the final playoff spot. Sanford is leading all SPs in losses, even though his ERA is only 3.34 . Hollywood is delivering when it counts, charting the top 3 pinch hitters (with 15 or more PH ABs). Granny Hamner, Lee Walls, and Al Pilarcik are all batting over .400 when digging into the box as pinch hitters. Louisville's Gil Hodges is raking in bases loaded situations, knocking 3 grand slams and 17 RBI in 13 bases loaded plate appearances. Week 16Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1959/standings.htmlHighlights: Amarillo and Charleston are the hot teams heading into the last week in July. The Senators have won 20 out of their last 25 and have pulled ahead of Hollywood by a game, thanks mostly to being tops in 1 run ball games, 25-10. Charleston's run differential (+57) definitely doesn't support the record. Amarillo has put together an amazing turnaround, going 14-2 after coming out of 9 game losing streak at the beginning of the month. The Gold Sox are now only 4 games out of the final playoff spot. Kansas City's Harmon Killebrew continues to pile on the numbers, leading in HR (37) and RBI (98). Killebrew has 6 HR and 16 RBI over his last 10 games. One more week at this pace and he'll break through the 40 HR / 100 RBI marks. Beaumont's Don Drysdale and Chattanooga's Camilo Pascual are locked in a tight race for the strikeout lead, Drysdale has 171 and leads Pascual by 4 Ks. The 2nd place Stars have a 9 game lead over 3rd place teams Louisville and Montreal. The battle for the last two playoff spots are still close with 7 teams within 9 games of third place. Montreal's Rocky Colavito is batting .424, slugging 8 HR and driving in 17 over his last 10 games, powering Montreal to a 7-3 record over that span and into the tie for 3rd place with Louisville. Hollywood is leading the triples table, with 3 of the top 4 spots filled with Stars. Batting leader Willie McCovey leads in triples (14) followed by Earl Battey (12) and Wally Moon (11). The Stars have 68 triples, twice the total of any other team except Denver (43). Daily Recaps and League File - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1959/leaguefiles/week_17.zip

Week 19Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1959/standings.htmlHighlights: Hollywood and Denver complete a late season tear down of the Senators, combining for a 10-3 record against Charleston over the last 2 weeks. Hollywood took 6 out of 7 and has given Montreal and Louisville a window to get back into the race for the division lead. Indianapolis' Joe Adcock and Montreal's Rocky Colavito both had 8 RBI games this week. Adcock's big game came on 8/10 against Amarillo and anchored a 5 game span where he compiled 13 RBI. 6 of his RBI came on 2 HRs including a grand slam. Week 20Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1959/standings.htmlHighlights: The race at the top is bunching up, only 6 games separate the top 4 teams. Amarillo's late season rally looks to be stalling, 13 GB and 7 out of 4th place. The playoff seeds are up for grabs with 4 weeks to go. A lot can change in the upcoming week, Montreal is facing Hollywood and Charleston in back to back series. Toledo's Cal McLish is the first 20 game winner after his complete game victory over Denver on 8/23. The win was McLish's 4th straight win for the Mud Hens. His 2.54 ERA is 2nd best and has earned the victories for the sub .500 Hens thanks to 4.58 RSUP. McLish is the only SP on Toledo with a winning record this season. Week 21Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1959/standings.htmlHighlights: Indianapolis' Joe Adcock chalked up his 2nd 8 RBI game this month, this time against the Lookouts on 8/29. Adcock had 2 3 run HRs and a 2 run double to amass his 8 RBI, with the highlight being the 2 out walkoff HR to give the Indians the victory. Adcock now has 37 HR and 98 RBIs, on pace for a 40/100 year. Hollywood's Willie McCovey is on a 10 game hitting streak and climbing back towards the .400 mark, now batting .393 (41 HR, 122 RBI, #2 in both categories). McCovey has overshadowed another terrific season in the Stars lineup, by Vada Pinson. Pinson is batting .310/.388/.522 with 24 HR, 120 RS and 74 SB. Montreal has chased down the leaders, now only 2 games behind Hollywood and Charleston. 6 games still span the top 4 teams, lots of important games coming up in the final 3 weeks. Week 22Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1959/standings.htmlHighlights: With 2 weeks to go the playoff teams are all but decided, Charleston, Hollywood, Louisville and Montreal. What's still up in the air are the seedings and matchups. Hollywood and Louisville have a series on the schedule the final week of the season, that is the only head to head matchup remaining before the postseason for the leaders. The first week in September marked a number of milestones. Toledo's Luis Aparacio stole his 100th base, Montreal's Rocky Colavito slugged his 50th HR, Charleston's Ryne Duren collected his 30th save, and Indianapolis' Joe Adcock drove in 14 more runs this week passing the 100 RBI mark. Week 23Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1959/standings.htmlHighlights: 3 games now cover the top 4 teams, home field advantage is on the line next week, none of the flights are booked yet and playoff tickets aren't printed! Montreal bats are red hot and could make a move this week, Eddie Mathews, Rocky Colavito, and Tito Francona have combined for 36 RBI, 10 HR, and 46 hits over the last 10 days. They are primed for the post season. Hollywood's Willie McCovey is 12 points away from .400, he'll need a huge week at the plate to get there, not out of the question though. In the Overall Decade standings it is incredibly close. With the wins from 1959 included the standings are: Thru 58 59 Total Amarillo Gold Sox (AGS) 765 72 837 Denver Bears (DEN) 767 64 831 Toledo Mud Hens (TMH) 761 68 829 Charleston Senators (CHS) 740 85 825 Louisville Colonels (LCO) 728 81 809 Montreal Royals (MON) 715 81 796 Beaumont Exporters (BEX) 724 71 795 Chattanooga Lookouts (CHL) 727 62 789 Indianapolis Indians (IND) 714 65 779 Hollywood Stars (HOL) 685 83 768 New Orleans Pelicans (NOP) 714 53 767 Kansas City Blues (KCB) 636 67 703
Amarillo's late summer push has kept them at the top of the standings, Denver struggled this year and gave the chase pack a chance to catch them, Charleston's strong 58/59 have them positioned to jump to the top if they can get hot in the post season. All in all, after 10 seasons, to have a race this close is a testimony to the competitiveness of the managers! THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR MANAGERS!!!!!
