Hawaii's Jim O'Toole whiffed 12 in a complete game 3 hit victory over Portland. Tidewater's Camilo Pascual rung up 10 against Montreal in 6 innings before being pulled for a no decision in the Tide's loss. Louisville's Sandy Koufax booked his 4th 10+ K performance in his last 5 games, this time in a 2-1 no decision against Toledo in the Colonels win. Koufax now has 86 K's in 10 starts and 77 IP, for a 10.1 K9IP average. Buffalo's Steve Barber is 4-0 in his last 4 starts, allowing 16 hits in his last 32 innings pitched. Montreal's Luis Arroyo has been perfect in his last 5 save opportunities and is now 1 save behind league leading Hawaii's Hoyt Wilhelm. Week 6Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1960kp/1961/standings.htmlHighlights: Montreal's Ernie Broglio is now undefeated in all 7 of his starts, capping off the streak with a 1 hitter against Toledo on 5/13. Broglio walked 2 and struck out 9 in the 2-1 victory. The Mud Hens only hit was a solo HR by Vada Pinson in the 7th inning giving the Hens a short lived lead. The Royals struck back for 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th on a bases loaded walk by Ron Hansen and a sacrifice fly by Frank Bolling. That was all Broglio needed, closing out the game in impressive fashion for the CG victory. 1961 HR champ, Montreal's Roger Maris is finding his form, with 7 HRs in his last 35 ABs, accounting for 17 RBI. Maris is now only 2 HRs behind the league leaders. At the quarter pole of the season, 9 teams are at .500 or higher, great races are forming in both divisions. The Bison's Joe Adcock slugged 5 HRs and 12 RBIs in the two games to help Buffalo climb into a tie with Denver for 1st place in the North. Buffalo has rebounded from an early season 7 game losing streak and now has their sights set on the division lead. Louisville's Sandy Koufax continues to rack up the strikeouts, with 16 more this week, now up to 110 Ks in 102 IPs. Tidewater's Frank Robinson has 5 HRs in his last 36 ABs and is now tied with Denver's Mickey Mantle with 19 HRs and has taken over the league lead in RBIs. After 7 weeks, only 2 teams are under .500 and divisional rivalries are starting to heat up. All Star GameHighlights: The North All Stars defeated the South All Stars 5-4 at Memorial Coliseum in Denver on June 30. Louisville's Sandy Koufax and Vancouver's Don Drysdale to the mound as the starting pitchers for the South and North teams, with Koufax dominating for the South, striking out 5 and only allowing 1 base runner in 3 innings. The North hitters found their bats the second time through the lineup scoring 3 runs in the 4th on home-runs by Montreal's Roger Maris and Toledo's Johnny Blanchard. The South struck back in the 5th on a 2 run double by Richmond's Rocky Colavito to take back the lead, only to have the North go ahead for good in the 6th thanks to back to back RBI singles by Blanchard and Denver's Bill Mazeroski. Vancouver's Turk Lown came in for the save in the 9th for the final 3 outs and the save. Blanchard was the game MVP, going 2-4 with a HR, 2 RBI, and a run scored.
