Koufax allowed 4 hits in the 11 innings, only to give up a lead-off HR to the Bison's Hank Aaron to lead off the bottom of the 12th. Koufax's outing is this weeks game of the week! Evidently EVERYONE that plays for Denver can hit. Al Luplow ( ?) is 15 for his last 31, hitting at a .484 clip over the last 10 games. Vancouver's Willie Davis is batting .576 over his last 33 ABs, including 13 RBI and a terrific performance on 7/8 against Tidewater. In the Mounties 12-5 win, Davis went 4-4 with a HR, triple, 5 RBI, and 3 RS, helping Don Drysdale to his league leading 14th victory and the Mounties to a 6 game lead in the North over Buffalo. The only category that may be out of reach is RBI's due to Richmond's Rocky Colavito (96) who is 19 ahead of 2nd place Smokey Burgess (DEN) and 21 ahead of Aaron. Congratulation to Sandy Koufax (LOU) for reaching 200 K's, on to 300! Vancouver continues their hot play, now with a 7 game lead in the North, thanks to an 18-7 record in 1 run games and a 7-2 record in extra inning games. Phoenix is keeping in the race in the South, currently in 3rd place, feasting on inter-league play with a 32-19 record. If the Giants can improve in divisional play they can close the gap on the division leaders. Gene Green spearheaded the attack with 9 RBI on clutch bases loaded at bats, including a grand slam and a 3 run triple. Louisville Sandy Koufax finds his way into the highlights again this week, not just for strikeouts this time, spinning a 1 hitter on 7/26 against Charleston. A Dick Stuart double in the 3rd inning was the only hit allowed in the outing. Richmond's Rock Colavito is the first to clear the 100 RBI benchmark, 18 ahead of the next highest total. Montreal's Frank Bolling has a 19 game hitting streak in the works, raising his average to a respectable .253 . In the North Montreal and Buffalo are one game apart with 3 weeks to go, going head to head only one more series before the season is over. Montreal holds the advantage in H to H 9-6 after taking 2 of 3 this week at home against the Bisons. The 3rd game of the series is this weeks game of the week. In the South, Louisville and Richmond continue to match records, with only 1 game separating them for home field advantage. The Colonels and Braves are in the middle of a series as this week came to a close and have another 3 game set scheduled before the season is complete. The Braves have a 1 game advantage, 7-6, but with 5 more games to go against the Colonels, nothing is decided. Aaron has a 4 HR lead over Richmond's Rocky Colavito, while Colavito has an 8 RBI lead over Portland's Willie Mays. On the mound, Vancouver's Don Drysdale surpassed the 20 win mark but only has a 1 game advantage over Louisville's Sandy Koufax and Tidewater's Bob Purkey. Koufax has one category locked up with 313 Ks, 94 more than than 2nd place Drysdale. The North match-up will be pitting Vancouver's league leading bats (tops in team OPS) against the Bison's league leading pitching staff (t-1st in ERA with Richmond). Louisville earned the home field advantage in the South and will be facing Richmond in the South Divisional Series. In an equally balanced pairing, the Colonels have a 10-8 advantage over the Braves in head to head play. Pitching will dominate this series, with both teams bringing strong arms to the mound.
