Week 24Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1960kp/1964/standings.htmlHighlights: With 1 week to go in the season, the North playoff representatives are all but decided. Vancouver has clinched the division and Toledo has a 5 game lead over Montreal and 6 over Portland. The Mud Hens bus would need to get lost on the way to the stadium for the entire week to miss the post season at this point. In the South Louisville and Phoenix have clinched the post season bids, the Colonels lead the Giants by 3 games, not out of reach but it will take some cooperation from the bottom half of the division for Phoenix to bridge the gap. The Colonels couldn’t find their offense for Cy Young candidate Sandy Koufax on 9/20, getting shutout for only the 9th time this season in a 3-0 loss to Charleston in Koufax’s next to last start. Koufax is at 28 wins with 1 start remaining. Almost all of the key statistical offensive categories are still close (the batting title), with the most interesting races in Stolen Bases (Mud Hens teammates Maury Wills and Lou Brock at 120 and 119 respectively), RBIs (5 batters within 6 RBIs) and HRs ( Felix Mantilla and Joe Adcock are 1 HR apart). Game of the Week : Cellar dwelling Charleston won't cooperate on Koufax's push for 30 wins.Daily Recaps and League File - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1960kp/1964/leaguefiles/week_24.zip

Final StandingsStandings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1960kp/1964/standings.htmlHighlights: Congratulations to the playoff teams: North (1) Vancouver (2) Toledo South (1) Louisville (2) Phoenix Vancouver reaches the playoffs for the 3rd consecutive year, hoping to repeat their 1962 championship. The North wild-card, Toledo, is in their second post season appearance of the decade, their first in the inaugural 1960 season. The Mounties have a 10-8 head to head advantage over the Hens, all indications point to an exciting series. Louisville repeats as the South division champion for the 3rd consecutive year and looks to breakthrough after losing in the finals the last two seasons. The Colonels will be facing off against the Giants, one of only two teams to have a winning record against the Colonels, a very surprising 12-6 advantage considering Louisville charted the most wins (96) in the league. This will be a very interesting series to watch. In individual batting performances, Louisville batters complete the triple crown, combining best in league performances by Tony Oliva in batting average (.352) and RBIs (128), and Felix Mantilla in HRs (52). Oliva counted 240 hits on his way to the batting title. North wild card representative Toledo continues to stick to their small ball style, with Lou Brock leading all base-runners with 123 SB, followed by his teammate Maury Wills with 122 SB. Individual pitching highlights include Louisville's Sandy Koufax (29 Wins, 27 CGs and 362Ks) and the South wild card entry Phoenix Joe Horlen (1.95 ERA in 269 IPs, 22-9, 8 shutouts). Horlen's ERA was a full 0.50 better than the 2nd place ERA from Richmond's Bill Lee at 2.31. It should be a very close Cy Young vote this year.
