: Charleston's Mike Cuellar pitched two outstanding games to open up his season, tossing a no hitter on 4/2 and a 1 hitter on 4/6. Cuellar has 13 Ks and allowed just 3 BBs in the 18 innings. Cuellar earned the no hitter against Louisville in a 7-0 win, and chalked up a 3-0 win in the 1 hitter in Memphis. The Colonels and the Blues shook off Cuellar's dominance later in the week, combining for 46 runs in games on 4/7 and 4/8, both Louisville wins, 15-10 and 11-10. Louisville has 26 HRs after just 8 games and looks to be very formidable after the 1st week of play. Millan's teammate Billy North had a career week, hitting 14 for 29, with 14 SBs and 10 runs scored. North had an SB in all 7 games including back to back 3 SB games. On the mound for the Pelicans, Nolan Ryan booked 14Ks on 4/13 in 6-5 loss to Louisville. Ryan leads all hurlers with 42 strikeouts. : Louisville continues to barrel through the rest of the league, winning at a .750 pace. The North and West remain very close, the North teams struggling at or below .500, just 2.5 games between 1st and 5th. Winnipeg's Dave Kingman extended his HR lead this week, his total is 18, 3 ahead of Hawaii's Bobby Bonds. Kingman had 2 grand slams this week, 1 each in victories over Portland and Toledo. The Islanders Tony Perez has 15 hits in his last 27 ABs, pushing the struggling Hawaii team to a 6-4 record over the last 10. Iowa's Ron Bryant tossed the leagues 3rd 1 hitter on 5/7, losing his no hit bid in the 8th inning on a clean single by Don Money. Game of the Week: Ron Bryant falls just 5 outs short of a no hitter. : Syracuse loses 3 straight and drop from first to worst in the North in just 2 weeks. Pawtucket is moving in the opposite direction in the division, winning 8 of 10 and trailing Toledo by 1.5 games. Phoenix and Albuquerque are starting to pull away in the West, posting the 2nd and 3rd best records in the league. New Orleans' Nolan Ryan and Toledo's Tom Seaver both cleared the 100 strikeout mark this week. Ryan leads Seaver by 2 with 113. Iowa's bats lit up Syracuse's pitching on 5/15, recording 27 hits on the way to a 6-5 win in 16 innings. The Oaks left 15 runners on base, but were able to push just enough across the plate for the win. Two more 1 hitters were pitched this week, Steve Renko for the Pelicans on 5/14 and Gaylord Perry for the Charlies on 5/16. Perry's no hit attempt lasted into the 8th inning when Randy Hundley smacked a 1 out HR to end the excitement. Game of the Week: Portland scratches out a 22 inning 2-1 win against Charleston.
