: Great pitching to open up the season, Iowa's Jerry Reuss tossed a 1 hitter on 4/2 in a 6-0 Oaks win over Springfield. Reuss took a no hitter into the 7th inning before Billy Williams stroked a clean base hit to end the excitement. Five pitchers logged 10 strikeout outings in week 1, including Gaylord Perry (CHC), Buzz Capra (PHX), Don Sutton (ALB), Nolan Ryan (NOP) and Mickey Lolich (MEM). Iowa and Syracuse were able to find some offense in the midst of the good pitching, pairing up in a 22 run contest on 4/4 in a 12-10 Chiefs win. Phil Neikro endured 6 unearned runs in the win. Hawaii's Willie Horton came out of the starting gate at full speed, collecting 15 hits and smacking 4 HRs in week 1 for the Islanders. Hawaii's Ralph Garr had a prolific week at the plate, hitting 18 for 33 and scoring 11 runs. Syracuse's Phil Niekro whiffed 11 Mud Hens on 4/8 in a 4-2 Chiefs win. Syracuse's Willie Stargell knocked in 15 runs in week 3 climbing to the top of the RBI table, leading teammate Darrell Evans by 4. Louisville's Kevin Kobel tossed 6 2/3 innings of no hit ball for the Colonels on 4/16 in a 12-0 rout of the division rival Charleston Charlies. : New Orleans wins 6 in a row but is still double digit games back in the South. Syracuse has won 13 of their last 15 and moved into a comfortable lead in the North, ending the week with a sweep of Louisville. Richmond took advantage of the Colonels being swept to take the lead again in the South. Louisville's Jeff Burroughs had 4 HRs, including a Grand Slam, and 10 RBI's for the Colonels this week. Syracuse's Jim Barr has wins in 8 consecutive starts and now has the most victories of all pitchers with 11. : Hawaii comes back from a 6 game losing streak to win 10 of 11, getting the Islanders to 6 games over .500. New Orleans wins 12 of 13 and continues to try to dig out from a 9-18 April, raising their record to 30-34. Phoenix is still tops in the league with a 45-22 record. Springfield's Bob Robertson caught fire at the plate this week, crushing HRs in 7 of his last 10 games including 3 on 6/5 in a 10-1 win over Winnipeg. Robertson has a 9 HR lead in that table over Winnipeg's Dick Allen. Robertson went 13 for 27 this week with 14 RBI, 9 HRs, and 13 RS. New Orleans' Billy North stole 5 bases on 6/9 against Louisville. The Pelicans weren't able to push him across the plate but managed to hold on for a 3-2 win. : Springfield sweeps Phoenix and Memphis and draws to within .5 game of Syracuse in the North. Louisville and Richmond continue a great race in the South, also just .5 game between them. Hawaii's Andy Messersmith and Charleston's Pat Dobson both had 1 hitters this week. Messersmith delivered a 3-0 win for the Islanders on 6/10, allowing a single in the 7th inning to Johnny Grubb. Dobson pitched his way to a 4-0 win over Albuquerque on 6/16, also allowing the only hit in the 7th inning, to Rico Petrocelli. Dobson whiffed 9 but walked 6 in his win, Messersmith had better control in his victory, striking out 7 and walking just 2. Pawtucket's Jim Wynn knocked his 2nd Grand Slam of the season in a 9-7 win over Louisville on 6/12. The blast came in the 9th inning with the Red Sox trailing. Syracuse's Jim Barr has "W"s in 10 of his last 11 starts and has 13 on the season, 7 pitchers are tied for second with 10. The Mud Hen's Tom Seaver is finding his form, striking out 14 Whips on 6/19 in a 3-0 3 hitter. The outing is his second straight double digit strikeout performance.
