Standings - latorrer0.tripod.com/sombb/1950kp/1954/standings.htmlHighlights: Beaumont and Toledo gave the Mud Hens crowd a little extra for their ticket price on 4/6, playing a 19 inning pitchers duel, with the Exporters coming out on top 2-1. The teams paired up again on 4/9 for another great pitching performance, a 1 hitter by Toledo's Bob Porterfield in a 2-0 victory over the Mud Hens. Louisville's Gil Hodges is off to a torrid start, with 5 HR and 15 RBI in the first week of the season. Mick went 4 for 5 on the day. Charleston's Richie Ashburn went 6 for 7 against Indianapolis on 5-3 in a 9-8 victory. Ashburn also scored 3 runs in the game. His Senators teammate Minnie Minoso is also swinging well at opportune times, with 12 RBI in the last 7 games. All of the hitters in the starting lineup had a hit and scored a run, Pee Wee Reese and Sandy Amaros both had 5 hits in the game, and Reese had an additional 4 RS and 5 RBI. The Stars are 6-1 over their last 7 and are climbing through the standings. Hollywood also has the first pitcher to 10 wins, Ned Garver. Louisville continues to hold onto 1st place, with lot's of baseball left to play, a hot or cold week can change things in a hurry. The Pelicans have strengths in all areas of the game. Hollywood has the best offense this far, led by Stan Musial with 23 HR and 70 RBI. New Orleans as the best pitching at the midpoint, with a team ERA of 3.17 and OppBA of .238. John Antonelli has 12 W and Bob Miller has 15 S for the Pelicans. Amarillo is showing the most power with 92 HR, 14 more than Indianapolis, and Denver has the best overall team AVG of .276 with the 2nd best team OBP. Hollywood's Stan Musial is coming through at the plate at a all the right times, with 18 GWRBI, tops in the league by 7! Eau Claire's Virgil Trucks is having a great season with not a lot of support from the Bears. Trucks has a 2.63 ERA and 1.12 WHIP, but has only scratched out 11 wins because of less than 3 runs per game from his Bears batters.
