Portland brought the lumber with all 9 batters recording at least 1 H, 1 RS, and 1 RBI, including the SP Bob Friend who went 4-5 with 3 RBI and 3 RS. Friend spread out 10 hits and allowed 2 runs in the complete game performance. Toledo pitched a perfect week, going 7-0 relying on strong pitching, allowing a league low 14 runs. Vern Law and Juan Marichal are both 2-0 for the Hens, anchoring the staff. Frank Lary is 3-0 with 3 CG in 4 starts, Mickey Mantle and Jim Gentile have combined for 8 HR and 27 RBI to power the Bears into the 1st place tie. Toledo's Vada Pinson is tops in SBs, safe in 14 out of 15 attempts, and is 2nd (14) in RS behind the Buffalo Bisons Hank Aaron (15). Portland's Bob Friend has victories in his last 2 starts and is now the first pitcher to 10 wins. Friend recorded 22 Ks in those starts, both complete games. Montreal's Lindy McDaniel is 3-0 in his last 3 starts, allowing 1 ER over 24 innings. McDaniel has a 2.21 ERA and 1.04 WHIP for the Royals, but it has only translated to a 7-5 record due to a team low 3.71 RSUP. Buffalo is taking their turn to rush to the top of the standings, winning 12 out of their last 13. The Bisons have done a great job recovering from a 4-10 start of the season and have moved into a tie for 2nd place. Both SPs threw 11 scoreless innings before their bullpens took over. The only run of the game was finally pushed across the plate in the 13th inning. Vancouver's Don Drysdale is throwing heat in every start and leads all pitchers with 136 Ks in 132 innings. Drysdale is joined by Louisville's Sandy Koufax and Montreal's Lindy McDaniel as the only hurlers with a K9IP over 9. Phoenix's Eddie Mathews is tops in HR and is beginning to close in on Vancouver's Bob Cerv for the RBI lead. Mathews trails Cerv by 7 RBI and leads him by 2 HR. Tidewater's Frank Robinson is 12 for 24 over the last 10 days and is the #1 hitter for the 3rd place Tides in OBP, SLG, OPS, H, 2B, RBI, RS, and BB.
